Family Voice
Parents and carers are the experts in their own families. Your experiences, ideas and feedback are invaluable in helping us shape services that truly meet the needs of local families.
By listening to your views and working together, we can continuously improve our services and make them easier to access.
We are looking for parents and carers to join our parent and carer panel Family Voice. You will help design and develop family services across Cambridgeshire. You may be expecting a baby, or have children or young people aged up to 19 years (or 25 years if they have Special Educational Needs or Disabilities).

By joining our Parent and Carer Panel, you can help influence how services are developed and delivered for families in your community.
The role of panel members
You will have the opportunity to:
- share your views, experiences and ideas through face-to-face or online meetings
- help shape new services and contribute to improvements in existing support for families
- work alongside other parents and carers to influence local decision-making
- provide feedback on information, resources and services to ensure they meet the needs of families
- attend meetings approximately every two months at a time that works for most members

How we evaluate our service
Family Voice and co-production are central to the Best Start in Life Family Hubs. Families can get involved in shaping, delivering and improving services through:
- dedicated parent and carer panels
- routine feedback mechanisms
- volunteer participation
- engagement with seldom-heard communities
- partnership working with maternity and neonatal voices partnership
- ‘You Said, We Did’ approach
The aim is to ensure that Family Hubs are designed with families rather than for families. We recognise parents and carers as experts by experience, and want your views to directly influence local service development and decision-making.
How to volunteer at a Best Start Family Hub
Who can volunteer?
Cambridgeshire Best Start Family Hubs and network sites welcome volunteers aged 16 and over from all walks of life. Previous experience of working with children and families is not required.
Volunteering is promoted as an opportunity to:
- gain skills and confidence
- build work experience and strengthen a CV
- meet other people in the community
- give something back to local families
