Electoral registers now online

The historic electoral registers and jury books for Cambridgeshire and Huntingdonshire are now available online through Ancestry.com.

Records now published online include poll books for local elections within the years 1774-1882, burgess rolls 1844-1908, electoral registers 1908-1966 and jury books for the old county of Cambridgeshire for 1828-1834, 1847, 1871 and 1883. Please note that those dates are covering dates only; not all records survive for some places or some years.

The original records themselves are held at Cambridgeshire Archives, Huntingdonshire Archives and the Cambridgeshire Collection in Cambridge's Central Library.

Our thanks to Cambridgeshire Family History Society…

The Cambridgeshire Family History Society has continued its very generous support with the acquisition of archives which appear on the open market.

In June, they contributed towards the purchase of some records of the manor of Netherhall Tyndalls in Soham. The seven court books date from 1522 to 1780 and encompass manorial events not just in Soham but also in the neighbouring parish of Fordham too.

Drinking in the past

We were delighted to be approached by two pubs, Wetherspoon's Sandford House in Huntingdon and the Maypole in Cambridge, to supply reproductions of photographs and other documents in our care to grace their walls. It’s a brilliant opportunity for new audiences to see some great examples of the wealth of historic records available for everyone to view in our searchrooms, like this plan for proposed alterations to the Maypole from 1933.
