Preparing for your interview

  • Read your interview invite carefully - Check the time and date of your virtual interview. Also, the venue if it is face-to-face.
  • Refresh your mind - read your interview statement, your CV, and the job description.
  • Do your research - find out about the model we use in the council.
  • Prepare your end of interview questions - don't forget this is as much your opportunity to interview them! You could confirm the salary at this point.
  • Turn up ready - check you have all the documents you need (DBS, certificates). For virtual interviews - ensure your device is charged and has a good internet connection. For face-to-face interviews - plan parking or travel routes.
  • Allow for extra time before your interview to prepare yourself - Time to read supporting documents, or do something that helps you to relax, such as taking a walk.
  • Presentation- plan to wear clothes that make you feel confident and comfortable. Have a hairbrush and mirror handy for those last minute checks!
  • Communicate effectively - speak clearly with pauses to allow processing time and to think about your answers.
  • Don't be afraid to ask them to repeat a question if you didn't hear it - It is better to ask to hear it again so that you can answer the question to the best of your ability.
  • Remember why you want this post and then show them why you should get it. Go get your job, you've got this!
