Homes connected to the heat network don’t require a boiler. The boiler is replaced with a ‘heat interface unit’ (HIU).

What does a HIU do?

  • It transfers heat from the heat network to your home’s heating system
  • It provides heat and hot water controls
  • A heat meter will measure heat usage (via the heat inlet and outlet pipes)

How big is the HIU?

  • It is similar in size and appearance to a gas boiler
  • Approximate dimensions: 60cm(h) x 48cm(w) x 30cm (d)
  • The HIU can be hung vertically or horizontally

How is the HIU maintained?

  • The HIU installed will be maintained and serviced by Cambridgeshire County Council maintenance contractor, as the heat network operators.
