Homes connected to the heat network don’t require a boiler. The boiler is replaced with a ‘heat interface unit’ (HIU).
What does a HIU do?
- It transfers heat from the heat network to your home’s heating system
- It provides heat and hot water controls
- A heat meter will measure heat usage (via the heat inlet and outlet pipes)
How big is the HIU?
- It is similar in size and appearance to a gas boiler
- Approximate dimensions: 60cm(h) x 48cm(w) x 30cm (d)
- The HIU can be hung vertically or horizontally
How is the HIU maintained?
- The HIU installed will be maintained and serviced by Cambridgeshire County Council maintenance contractor, as the heat network operators.
