Active Travel strategy

Cambridgeshire’s Active Travel Strategy (opens as a .pdf) sets out policies to improve walking and cycling across the county. It aims to make active travel the first choice for local journeys, reduce car use, and support the Council’s net zero target by 2045.

Vision

“Active travel will be embedded in all transport policies and developments in Cambridgeshire. We will create a safe, well-connected, and inclusive network that becomes the go-to option for local journeys.”

Key objectives

  • Develop a connected walking and cycling network
  • Encourage a shift away from car journeys
  • Improve links to public transport
  • Make routes safer and more accessible
  • Include active travel in all new developments
  • Improve maintenance and design standards
  • Support behaviour change

Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan (LCWIP)

The LCWIP identifies priority walking and cycling routes across each district for improvement.

Additional routes have been identified through consultation on the Active Travel Strategy and LCWIP. These are shown in the network vision maps and will be included in future updates to the LCWIP.
