Programme of work

Phase 7 works started
Work on phase 7 between Pagram Way, Orchard Park and Cambridge North started as planned on Sunday 19 April. Separation fencing is currently being put in between Orchard Park and Cambridge Regional College.
Students for Cambridge Regional College should use Orchard Park East bus stop. Temporary stops are in place on Milton Road for Cambridge Science Park, located outside the car dealership (what3words (///chair.palace.intelligible) and opposite the Golden Hind (what3words (///crisis.chips.outfit). During this closure B Buses are diverted via Kings Hedges Road and Milton Road inbound and vice versa outbound and will continue to serve Cambridge North in both directions.
Whilst the change in the works location means the A bus now resumes its usual route into Cambridge from the north, the B bus will continue to serve the temporary stop near the shop in Impington in place of the Histon and Impington city-bound stop to enable the diversion.
Phase 7 works include the construction of safety fencing between the Busway and the foot and cycle path as well as perimeter fencing between Garry Drive and the Busway track.
Routine maintenance works
We’ll be carrying out routine maintenance on the busway over upcoming weekends, which will involve local closures of both the Busway and the path which runs alongside it.
Signs will be in place to inform people in advance of these works.
Work is planned to take place on the following weekends:
- 9 to 10 and 16 to 17 May: Longstanton to Oakington
- 30 to 31 May: Park Lane to Histon
- 6 to 7 June: St Ives to Swavesey
Additionally, the foot and cycle path on the Addenbrookes spur will be closed from 8am 30 May to 12 noon on 31 May whilst works takes place to remove temporary fencing and graffiti prior to Cambridge South Station opening in June 2026.
Pagram Way to Histon & Impington city-bound stop/Cambridge Road
Works on phase 6 have been completed and works start on phase 7, south of Pagram Way, Orchard Park from Sunday 19 April.
In this area we have installed separation fencing between the Busway and the maintenance track. We have also replaced temporary boundary fencing near to the levelling ponds with permanent 1.8m high green mesh fencing. There are gaps in the new fence at 9m intervals to allow small mammals to pass over the Busway.
Toad tunnels along this part of the Busway have now been cleared of debris, which should improve the ability of amphibians and small animals to get from one side of the Busway to the other. This work was undertaken with the guidance of an ecologist and took place recently following the end of winter hibernation time.
Path flooding
The path alongside the Busway was closed near Fenstanton Lakes due to flooding following the wet weather earlier in the year.
With the more recent sunny weather, the flooded section has now completely dried out, and the path has been reopened to pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders.
We remind people that trespassing on the busway is strictly prohibited, and that they must keep to the maintenance track or formal crossing points for their own safety. Trespassing on the busway tracks is an offence and the County Council reserve the right to take enforcement action.

Histon and Impington public meeting
Following the local survey and stakeholder engagement, we anticipate creating a new formal crossing at the Community Orchard. A new crossing in this location was the most popular choice with both stakeholders and those responding to the survey.
We’re inviting residents of Histon and Impington to attend a further drop-in event on Tuesday 9 June, from 5.30pm to 7.30pm, at Histon Baptist Church.
This public meeting in Histon and Impington will provide a further update about the safety improvements we’re undertaking along the busway, including plans for the new crossing at Histon Orchard.
Histon fencing
Work to install perimeter fencing between the Hains factory and the St Audrey’s Road crossing point was completed in November 2025.
In August 2025, we announced a lower speed limit on the Guided Busway at Histon. Speed limit reduction enables potential risks we have identified with pedestrians crossing the Busway track to be further reduced. In advance of the new fencing being installed to separate the busway and the maintenance track along the whole length of the Guided Busway, undesignated informal crossing points have been closed with the need for this outlined to residents at public meetings in late 2025.
