Sandbags

The Council does not typically provide sandbags in the event of flooding.

Traditional sandbags are often used to prevent floodwater from entering properties for a short period of time, however when used incorrectly they can be ineffective.

Alternatives are available that are typically more practical as they are filled with a pulp and polymer that absorbs water, causing them to swell. When dry, they weigh considerably less than traditional sandbags which makes them much easier to store and transport.

More information on these alternatives is published on the Flood Mary website.
