Nine major libraries have reopened with interim opening hours: Bar Hill, Cambourne, Cambridge Central Library (but not the Cambridgeshire Collection), Ely, Huntingdon, March, St Ives, St Neots and Wisbech. You can return books, pick up pre-ordered books, or use a pre-booked computer. Toilets and refreshments are not available. All library events and activities are cancelled until further notice.

  • Further libraries will open in August.
  • Mobile libraries will not resume yet due to the challenge of creating a safe environment in a confined space.
  • Meeting rooms, library events and activities will not resume in July and August. These services will reintroduced when it is safe to do so.
  • There will be no overdue charges for books borrowed in July and August.

Before you visit

We have a wide range of eBooks, eAudio books, eComics and eMagazines which you can access without visiting a library.

Select and Collect Service

This service allows you to request a selection of books based on your preferences.

  • You can use the online form below, or call us on 0345 045 5225
  • You will need to be a member of Cambridgeshire Libraries - you can join online.
  • You can pick the books up from any of the libraries which have reopened - tell us your preference
  • Specify how many books you would like to borrow, your favourite genres, and whether you want large print or spoken word editions. You can enter information for up to four children, and four adults.
  • We will use this information to choose a selection from the books available at your chosen library.
  • We will notify you when this has been done and you can come and pick the books up from the library.

Reserving specific titles

You can reserve specific titles through the library catalogue. You can also call us to make a reservation on 0345 045 5225.

Using library PCs

You will need to prebook to use a library computer. You can book one 45 minute appointment per day, and one other person can use it with you. Please book online, or call us on 0345 045 5225 .

When you visit

  • Safety of customers and staff is a priority. You will need to maintain social distancing, while queueing outside, and when inside of the library. A member of staff at each library will be responsible for queue management.
  • Children can attend with parents but browsing will not be possible.
  • All payments must be made with the exact cash, apart from printing services at Cambridge Centre, Huntingdon and Wisbech libraries, which can also be paid for using contactless card.
  • Public access IT facilities will be available by appointment only, with a limit of one 45 minute appointment per day per customers.
  • Toilets and refreshments will not be available.
  • We are currently unable to take book donations.
  • You can return books to any open library.
  • We can't lend CDs or DVDs.
  • We cannot currently offer room hire.

Further library reopenings

From Monday 3 August we are planning to open the following libraries:

Arbury Court, Barnwell Road, Buckden, Burwell, Chatteris, Cherry Hinton, Clay Farm, Comberton, Cottenham, Great Shelford, Linton, Littleport, Milton Road, Ramsey, Rock Road, Papworth, Sawtry, Soham, Warboys, Whittlesey, Willingham, Yaxley.

Sawston's new library will also be opening in August at its new location in Sawston Community Hub.

Histon Library has closed for refurbishment, the provisional offer will be confirmed in September before a new library opens in 2021.
