The council is proud to host and support a wide range of fun, free, and family-friendly events. All designed to get you moving and exploring your community. Whether you're a seasoned cyclist, a curious walker, or just looking for something new , there's something for everyone.
Cycle training
Have you always wanted to cycle but have never taken lessons? Or maybe you’ve had an accident or near-miss and lost your confidence? Or you want to take the next step and cycle more confidently on the roads? Well, we’re offering free cycle training at locations across Cambridgeshire.
This is open to all and we are also offering sessions that are exclusive to women, adults, families and children.

Dr Bike sessions - free bike safety checks
Thank you to everyone that booked onto a session in 2025. We had a total of 418 attendees over the course of 40 sessions throughout the county and filled 61% of available slots. We received feedback from 61 attendees that told us the following:
- 100% rated staff friendliness as excellent or very good
- 98% rated their overall experience as excellent or very good
- 98% rated the quality of service as excellent or very good
- 98% rated the useful of your advice as excellent or very good
- 90% felt cycling on their bike was very safe after the service

Love to Ride – Track your cycling journey
Use the Love to Ride app to log your rides, join motivational challenges, and win prizes. Perfect for beginners and seasoned cyclists alike — with helpful videos to get you started.
Cargo bike try out
Try using a cargo bike for your school and nursery drop-offs and pick-ups, work, shopping, deliveries, business use and much more.
Cargo bikes produce zero emissions. They have reduced transport costs versus motor vehicles and have a high carrying capacity. They also provide health benefits through physical activity.
We currently have two try before you buy schemes available:
- Outspoken Cycles – Find out more about the Cargo Bikes for Businesses Cambridge scheme.
- Electric Bike Sales – Learn more about the Try Before You Buy: eCargo Bike Hire Cambridgeshire scheme. This scheme is available only to residents and businesses in Bar Hill, Fen Drayton, Fenstanton, Histon, Impington, Longstanton, Milton, Northstowe, Oakington, Over, Rampton, St Ives, Swavesey and Willingham.
Active Travel in schools
Our Road Safety team is working with schools to promote active travel for the school run through exciting initiatives like:

- Take 5 walking zones
- Bike It cycling promotion
- School Streets

Cambridgeshire Outdoors
Cambridgeshire County Council operates two outdoor centres for children, young people and adults. They offer transformational experiences that inspire curiosity, build confidence and foster a connection with the natural world.
