Cambridgeshire County Council runs various initiatives to support residents to take up active travel. This in turn supports a modal shift towards more frequent use of sustainable transport options by residents.

For example this could involve mobile applications or apps that reward the use of active travel with points and prizes. It could also involve ‘try before you buy’ type schemes. Please find details of the current initiatives below.

Dr Bike Sessions

Do you want to make sure your bicycle is in good working order? Maybe you haven’t used your bicycle in a little while? Or use it regularly and just want some peace of mind that everything is fine.

Reserve your space now for a free bike safety check, minor repairs and expert recommendations on how to keep your bike in tip-top shape.

Sessions are currently available in Chatteris, March, Whittlesey and Wisbech. We’ll be adding sessions across East Cambridgeshire, Huntingdonshire, Fenland and South Cambridgeshire between July and November.

We are encouraging Cambridgeshire residents to cycle by engaging with Love to Ride. The website and app track your cycling journeys and you can win prizes when you cycle.

Outspoken Cycles are operating a try before you buy scheme for cargo bikes on behalf of the Council. There are bikes for families and businesses to try.

Smart Journeys work with some new developments across the region to promote active travel to new residents.

Our Road Safety team are working with schools to increase active journeys for the school run. Schemes including Junior Travel Ambassadors, Take 5 walking zones, Bike It cycling promotion and School Streets are all encouraging active journeys.
