Bookstart supports parents to enjoy books with their child from an early age. It aims to provide free packs of books for all babies and preschoolers. You can ask at your local library if you have difficulty getting hold of your pack and staff will order one for you. We offer:

  • Bookstart Baby Pack - you'll be given your Bookstart pack in your baby's first year, usually from your health visitor or other health professional at your baby’s 6 week health check.
  • Bookstart Treasure Pack - your child will get their pack when they are 3–4 years old, usually from their nursery or playgroup.

The following packs are also available to order (usually health and early years professionals will order these, but please ask at the library if your child is entitled to a pack and has not received one):

  • Bookshine - packs for deaf children.
  • Booktouch - packs for blind or partially sighted children.
  • Bookstart Star - free pack of books for children who have a disability which impacts on fine motor skills.
  • Dual language - books in a variety of languages are available for families who speak little or no English. Early Years settings are able to order these to be gifted with a Treasure pack

The Bookstart Bear Club and Bear's Reading Adventure are fun and free library membership reward schemes for babies, toddlers and preschoolers.
