About the directory

This directory contains a list of small, independent care and support services in Cambridgeshire – known as ‘Care Micro Enterprises’ (CMEs).

care micro enterprises logo light green (002)

Being small businesses means that they can provide the time and consistency to build a real understanding and relationship with the people they support.

The directory has been put together by Cambridgeshire County Council’s Care Micro Enterprise Development Team who support the development of care and support enterprises in Cambridgeshire.

The directory aims to provide more choice for people to find a personal, local care or support service that works for them.

Disclaimer

All Care Micro Enterprises listed in the directory have committed to our terms of engagement and quality assurance process, demonstrating that their service is safe, legal, well-run and high-quality.

However, it is important to note that neither Cambridgeshire County Council or its partners formally accredit or commission the services on this list. Cambridgeshire County Council and its partners are therefore unable to guarantee the quality or satisfaction of any services provided by any enterprise on this directory or accept any liability for any services provided by any Care Micro Enterprise listed on this directory.

We welcome customer feedback and reserve the right to remove enterprises who do not meet the standards set out in our terms of engagement. Any feedback can be sent to cmedevelopment@cambridgeshire.gov.uk or care.together@cambridgeshire.gov.uk

How to use the directory

If you are interested in a service provided by a Care Micro Enterprise, please get in touch with them directly to have a chat about whether they can meet your needs, the cost of the service, and their availability.

You can then meet them to discuss and agree the support you would like and when this will take place. This information should be documented in your care and support plan, which the CME will be able to support you with. Once you have agreed on the care and support to take place, you should then be issued with a service user agreement (contract) which both parties should sign.

If you are eligible to receive adult social care funded support, you can talk to your social worker about whether a Direct Payment would be a suitable way to purchase your care and support from a Care Micro-Enterprise.

For more information on Direct Payments, please see: Direct payments for adults and older people - Cambridgeshire County Council

Considerations when using the Directory

If a person or their representative want to use a Care Micro Enterprise which is exempt from Care Quality Commission (CQC) regulation, they will need to answer yes to all the questions below.

  • Does the person know what support or care they want, how they want it and when?
  • Is the person willing and able to engage directly with a provider and tell them what is needed?
  • Is the person willing (and do they understand how) to check the suitability of a provider and make good decisions about engaging their services?
  • Does the person have the capacity to control, direct and co-ordinate their care and are they willing and able to do so on an on-going basis?

This will ensure that the person is accessing Self Directed Support and will be able to use a Care Micro Enterprise.

Before employing a Care Micro Enterprise, you should always ask to see their portfolio which should include their qualifications, references and any other evidence required to show that they are a safe and responsible provider. They will then provide you with:

  • A service user agreement which will outline costs
  • A Risk Assessment
  • A Complaints Procedure

For further guidance on the regulation of healthcare providers, please see Care Quality Commission: Scope of Registration (Pages 13 -14)
