How we can help

  • Offer you advice and guidance around healthy living and places you can access in the area you live. If you're in Cambridgeshire, check out the healthy living information directory
  • Assist you in registering with a GP, dentist and optician.
  • Your Looked After Children’s nurse will prepare your Health Passport. This gives you information about your health history. A copy will be shared with you at your final health review before you turn 18 years. A copy will also be stored on your health record (SystmOne) so you can request a copy from your GP at a later date.
  • We'll support you if you're moving from Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) to adult services. We will help you ask the important questions about this change.
  • If you need confidential advice and guidance about your sexual health and family planning, we can support you to access iCaSH.

Our offer to you

Prescriptions

Driving

We are committed to supporting our young people in gaining essential life skills and independence. To assist with the costs of learning to drive, we can cover expenses for a provisional license (including photographs), one theory test and one practical driving test. We can also cover the cost of a driving app to aid in preparation. Also, for young people in full-time employment we may provide up to £700 towards the cost of driving lessons. This is subject to an assessment.

We will help you connect with the right services and support.

You may be entitled to assistance from Healthy Start How to apply – Get help to buy food and milk (Healthy Start) and a one-off payment from Sure Start Maternity Grant: Overview - GOV.UK.

If you are aged 16-21 years, we will also assist you in providing a one-off £250 maternity grant in your third trimester. This is to help you prepare for the things you need to buy for your baby.

The Young Parent Pathway service provides extra help to parents who are under 19 years old. This is in addition to the support provided by the health visitor.

We can help you access Early Help Services that make sure you get more intense support as a new parent. This will start while you are pregnant and continue up to your child turning two. This is to help you learn what it means to be a parent, support you in developing routines and learning how to be a good parent. They can also support you accessing children’s centres and parenting classes.

Early Help services, such as children’s centres and parenting classes, are available for you to attend. You can participate in these if you want extra support in being a good parent. Your personal adviser can help you access these settings. We can attend with you or wait outside if this will help you feel more confident.

We will do what we can to support you in understanding what is happening and managing any decision made about your child. If you invite us, we will be present at any meeting or court hearing. This includes meetings with your child’s social worker or with your solicitor.
