Northstowe primary and secondary schools

The first primary school in Northstowe, to be called Pathfinder Primary School, will be run by Diocese of Ely Board of Education and will have 3 forms of entry (630 places). It will initially accommodate the development's first community facilities including Children's Centre services and potentially the Key Stage 3 secondary pupils before the secondary school building opens.

Following delays in securing house builders to implement the planning consent at Northstowe, the anticipated demand for primary school places has not materialised. The opening of the school has therefore been deferred by a year in line with the revised building programme set out by the developers. The revised opening date will be 4 September 2017. Pathfinder Primary School is the first of six primary schools, which the Council plans to provide, to cater for the children of families moving into the new homes across Northstowe.

The secondary school will be run by Cambridge Meridian Academies Trust (CMAT) and will open initially for 600 pupils in its first phase and be extended in subsequent phases to 1,200 and finally 1,800 pupils.

CMAT is also the sponsor for the 400 place post-16 facility, which will be co-located with the secondary school and open in a later phase of the Northstowe development. Together with the second primary school (630 places) and an Area Special School, these schools will form an education campus in Phase 2 of the development.
