Road surface treatment schedule

During the year, we carry out a variety of surface treatments on roads across Cambridgeshire.

Types of road surface treatment

Visit our types of road surface treatment page to learn more about the different types of road surface treatments we use.

How do we inform residents about upcoming works

We place advance warning signs on the roads affected a minimum of 14 days before the start date of the works. We also write to residents of properties affected by the works to inform them about what is happening.

Impact of works on residents

While works take place:

  • We ask residents to help us by not parking their vehicle(s) on the road
  • We may need to close the road and set up a signed diversion route
  • Access to properties/roads within the closure area is possible but work may cause delay - please speak to staff on-site for assistance

Please take care when driving on the newly laid surface as some loose chippings are likely. Until we have returned to the site to sweep away loose chippings, please follow the temporary speed limit signage.

Diversion routes

For diversion routes, we use the same or higher category of road as the road we have closed. This is to ensure the diversion route can cope with the same types of traffic as the closed road. In some rural locations, we may divert using a lesser category route where there is no alternative.

We only signpost our approved diversion route. There are often locally known roads that drivers choose to use instead. We have no powers to prevent highway users from using these alternative routes.

Weather conditions

We can only lay road surface treatments in good weather. If it is wet or raining, too hot or too cold, we have to postpone the works until the weather conditions improve.

If we postpone the works, you can find the latest information on our schedule below. We update the schedule each working day.
