Benefits for carers
Carer's Allowance
Some carers might be eligible for Carer's Allowance. If you care for someone for more than 35 hours a week, and they get certain benefits, you could get £69.70 a week. Find more information on Carer's Allowance on GOV.UK website.
You can still claim Carer's Allowance if you work, as long as you spend at least 35 hours in your caring role.

Carer's Credit
You could get Carer’s Credit, a National Insurance credit if you’re caring for someone for at least 20 hours a week. There is more information about Carer's Credit on GOV.UK website.

Your rights
Carers UK has information about:
- your employment rights as a working carer
- your right to time off when needed, including Care Leave Act from April 2024
- requesting flexible working, and the Flexible Working Act from April 2024
Returning to work

JobCentre Plus provides support to carers. This includes Work Preparation Support for Carers - help and support for you to make a successful move into work, including access to training and advice on job hunting and applications.
You might be able to get help with the cost of replacement care while you take part in training or attend interviews.
Leaving work
There is information on leaving work due to a caring role on the Carer's UK website.
Giving up work to care for someone can have an impact on your wellbeing. Make sure you look after yourself. There is information on services and support in our webpage on wellbeing for carers.
Welfare benefits team
We can provide support and assistance with claiming benefits. There is also a home visiting service aimed at people who are unable to access front line advice or live in rural areas of Cambridgeshire.
