Littleport Primary School Expansion

Introduction

Proposal to increase the Published Admission Number at Littleport Community Primary School

Cambridgeshire County Council plans to make changes to Littleport Community Primary School, located at Parsons Lane, Littleport, Ely, Cambridgeshire, CB6 1JT. These changes are expected to take effect for the September 2027 Reception intake, pending the completion of building work necessary to accommodate the additional children.

Background

Littleport Community Primary School was inspected by Ofsted in October 2024 and was rated as ‘Good’. The school had 398 children enrolled as of the January 2025 census. The school currently has a Published Admission Number (PAN) of 60.
A planning application was approved to expand the physical capacity of the school to accommodate up to 630 places.

Proposal

To increase the PAN for Littleport Community Primary School, from 60 to 90 children per Reception intake, pending completion of building works to expand the physical capacity at the school.

Implementation plan

Cambridgeshire County Council launched a consultation on the proposed changes for four weeks. It ran from Monday 10 November 2025 to Monday, 8 December 2025. The consultation provided opportunities for interested parties to make comments. An online consultation meeting took place on 25 November 2025.

The Council will review all comments received during this period before making a decision about the proposed changes. If approved, the changes are expected to take effect from September 2027, depending on the completion of necessary building work.

Decision

Following consideration of representations made during the consultation, officers have decided to confirm the enlargement of premises at the school. However, they have determined that the PAN will not be raised for 2027/28.

Any increase in the number of children in the school’s catchment will be managed with the school. This may include admitting above PAN to accommodate catchment pupils and monitoring sufficiency in line with local growth.

At an appropriate time in the future, it may be deemed necessary to permanently increase the PAN. If this is the case the proposal would be considered through the maintained schools’ annual admissions consultation. This is run by the Council.
