Introduction

Proposal to increase the Published Admission Number at The Rackham CE Primary School

Cambridgeshire County Council plans to make changes to The Rackham CE Primary School, located at Main Street, Witchford, Ely, Cambridgeshire, CB6 2HQ. These changes are expected to take effect for the September 2027 Reception intake, subject to Planning approval and pending the completion of building work necessary to accommodate the additional children.

Background

The Rackham CE Primary School has recently been inspected by Ofsted in October 2024 and was rated as ‘Good’. The school had 323 children enrolled as of the January 2025 census and 24 early years places. A planning application will be submitted to expand the physical capacity of the school from 315 places to 420 places and from 24 to 50 early years places

Proposal

To increase the PAN for The Rackham Church of England Primary School and Pre-School, from 45 to 60 children per Reception intake (and from 24 to 50 early years places), subject to Planning approval of the plans to expand the physical capacity at the school.

Implementation Plan

Cambridgeshire County Council will launch consultation on the proposed changes for four weeks, from Monday 10 November 2025 to Monday, 8 December 2025. This consultation provides opportunities for interested parties to make comments. The Council will review all comments received during this period before making a decision about the proposed changes. If approved, the changes are expected to take effect from September 2027, depending on the completion of necessary building work.
