Introduction
Deciding to educate your child at home is an important decision which requires a great deal of thought and consideration. This form of education, sometimes known as 'education otherwise', is referred to by the Council as Elective Home Education (EHE).
News on the Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Act 2026
The above act received Royal Assent on 29 April 2026. The Act will be published soon at Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Act 2026 - Parliamentary Bills - UK Parliament.
It contains several measures relating to children not in school, including those who are electively home educated.
When implemented, these measures will help local authorities identify all children not in school in their areas. This includes children not receiving a suitable education or those at risk of harm, and to take action where this is the case.
Please see attached letter for parents which contains more details and information.
