March Household Recycling Centre is linked to the adjacent landfill site. It must close before the end of July 2027 as part of restoration works at the end of the landfill’s life.
A replacement site will be provided on adjacent land on Hundred Road belonging to Cambridgeshire County Council. The plan displays the existing site labelled as 'Public Recycling Facility' within a green boundary. The proposed new site is outlined in red, with a compass marker indicating the direction of North.

Benefits of the new site
- Improved site layout and additional capacity that supports expected population growth in the area until 2070.
- Level access to deposit waste (no steps).
- Canopies will help protect site users and staff from the weather and prevent surface water run off being contaminated by waste materials.
- Additional parking spaces.
- Improved flow of vehicles.
- Increased separation of site users and servicing vehicles.
- The site will no longer need to close when containers are exchanged.
- An undercover area for the donation and purchase of reusable items.
- New access for cyclists and cycle parking.
- Pedestrian access.

The current site will remain open during construction of the new facility, but we expect an increase in traffic during this period due to construction vehicles accessing the area. Construction is due to start in mid-August 2026 and is expected to take around nine months, with the new site expected to open in April 2027. Opening hours for the new site will be the same as the current site.
What is the cost?
The construction of the new facility is expected to cost approximately £3.7 million.
Public consultation
A consultation on changes to the household recycling facility was conducted in summer 2022. The consultation includes further details about plans for the site.
