March Household Recycling Centre is linked to the adjacent landfill site. It must close before the end of 2026 as part of restoration works at the end of the landfill’s life.
A replacement site will be provided on adjacent land on Hundred Road belonging to Cambridgeshire County Council. The plan displays the existing site labelled as 'Public Recycling Facility' within a green boundary. The proposed new site is outlined in red, with a compass marker indicating the direction of North.

Benefits of the new site:
- Larger site allows for expected population growth in the area until 2070
- Level access to deposit waste (no steps)
- Additional parking spaces
- Improved flow of vehicles
- Increased separation of site users and servicing vehicles
- The site will no longer need to close when containers are exchanged
- A reuse shop will enable donation of reusable items and reduce waste for disposal.
- Improved access for cyclists
- Pedestrian access

The current site will not need to close during construction of the new site, but there will be an increase in traffic during this period. The construction process is expected to take between 6 and 9 months, with the new site expected to open in late Summer 2026. Opening hours will be as for the current site.
What is the cost?
The new site is expected to cost approximately £3.9 million.
Public consultation
A consultation on changes to the household recycling facility was conducted in summer 2022. The consultation includes further details about plans for the site.
